Party Foods and Wine

As the holiday season approaches a common question is what wines pair well with different hors d’oeuvres. We have a few tips to help make planning your menu easier.
Peanuts, walnuts, almonds and other nuts have an oily, salty taste and need an acidic wine to balance their taste. Riesling or Sauvignon Blanc will work nicely.
Spicy Asian and Thai foods need something sweet to temper their heat. Late-harvest Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling complement these foods.
Fishy snacks, like oysters, shrimp and salmon are too briny for red wines and can make the wine taste metallic. Try sparkling wines to cleanse the palate.
