Monday night, January 16th Marshall was interviewed by KMBC Channel 9 news’ Maria Antonia concerning a measure before the Kansas State Senate aimed to legalize in-store samplings of wine, beer and spirits. If passed, the legislation would limit sampling portions to a half-ounce of distilled spirits, an ounce for wine, or two ounces for beer or malt beverage. State law currently prohibits consumption of alcohol inside stores or proprietors' staged events nearby.
“The whole purpose is not for people to have as much to drink as they want. It’s for them to try different things. Every time a new beer comes out people are anxious to try. They want to know the difference between IPA, stout or porter."
-Marshall Rimann

The measure will be the topic of legislative hearings in a matter of weeks.

New Year, New Spin on Cocktails!
We are always adding new and unique offerings to our shelves. One of the most recent, spirits-wise, has been Kansas Clean Distilled Spirit Whiskey. Kansas, "a new whiskey for new whiskey drinkers,” is a whiskey produced from a blend of artisanal whiskey and column distilled winter wheat spirit. This makes it a very light, both in color and on the palate; smooth whiskey, perfect for cocktails.
Available in our Party Shops, are a wide range of bitters, a classic way to add background flavors to your cocktails. Use a few dashes of these highly aromatic bitters to enhance your cocktail with their strong fruit flavors. Along with Old Fashioned Aromatic Bitters by Fee Brothers, we also suggest trying Lemon, West Indian Orange, Cherry or Rhubarb.
Old Fashioned
- 2oz Kansas Whiskey
- 1oz sweet and sour mix
- dash of bitters
- cherry, for garnish (optional)
Combine the whiskey and sour mix in a large old-fashioned glass with ice. Add dashes of bitters, to taste. Stir, garnish with cherry.
Manhattan
- 2oz Kansas Whiskey
- 1/2oz sweet vermouth
- 2-3 dashes bitters
- maraschino cherry for garnish
Pour the ingredients into a mixing glass with ice cubes. Stir well. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with cherry.

Merry Christmas to our
Serbian Orthodox friends!
The Serbian Orthodox church follows the Julian calendar, in which Christmas falls 13 days later than the Gregorian. The drink traditionally associated with Serbian culture is Slivovitz, a plum brandy.
Manastirka Slivovitz is made by special fermentation and distillation of plums grown in the orchards of Serbia. The name Manastirka means "from the monostery," and plum brandy has been made according to the traditional methods of the Monasteries for centuries. Fresh ripened plums are crushed and allowed to ferment for over two months. The mash is then double-distilled and aged in oak barrel casks. After one year of the aging process, hand selected fresh plums are added to yield more of the fruit taste and of sun-ripened plum aroma. It is served well chilled in a small shot glass.
Manastirka Slivovitz can be found at both Rimann Liquors locations.
